Sergio Busquets: My dream is to finish my career at Barcelona

Sergio Busquets says he wants to retire at Barcelona after finally signing a new contract with the club.

Barca announced in May that they had agreed a new five-year deal with Busquets, 28, with the option of a further two-year extension for the midfielder.

And after the Catalan club said earlier this week that the Spain international would be signing on those terms on Thursday, he has now put pen to paper.

"I'm excited to remain connected to the club of my life," Busquets told Barca TV. "I hope we can celebrate many successes during this new contract, like those before it. This is the best team in the world.

"I'm grateful for [the club's] confidence, but it must be given and taken. I try to improve and work as hard as they come with each day.

"It would be a dream [to retire at Barca], of course I'd like to. We must go year by year because football's like this. It depends on how you're feeling and whether injuries respect you, but hopefully it'll be so."

Busquets, who has been at Barca throughout his professional career, has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe over recent years.

He has won a host of honours during his time at the club, including six Primera Division titles and the Champions League in 2009, 2011 and 2015.
