Barcelona's Sergio Busquets to sign new five-year deal on Thursday

Barcelona have announced that Sergio Busquets will sign a new contract with the club on Thursday.

Barca announced in May that they had agreed a new five-year deal with Busquets, 28, with the option of a further two-year extension for the midfielder.

And the Catalan club said on Wednesday that the Spain international will now be signing on those terms later this week.

"First team player Sergio Busquets will be putting pen to paper to sign his new contract with FC Barcelona on Thursday 22 September at 1.00pm CET in the club offices," a Barca statement read.

"As has already been announced, the midfielder will be prolonging his relations with the club until 30 June 2021, while the deal also includes the option of a further two-year extension through to the 2022/23 season, depending on the number of games that he plays.

"The buyout clause has been set at 200 million euros."

Busquets, who has been at Barca throughout his professional career, has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe over recent years.

He has won a host of honours during his time at the club, including six Primera Division titles and the Champions League in 2009, 2011 and 2015.
