Barcelona's Neymar accused after 'provocative' performance vs. Leganes

Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran has said he would not act in the same way as Neymar amid an increasing debate about the Barcelona attacker's "provocative" style.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's clash with Barcelona at the Camp Nou, Juanfran told Cadena Ser: "I wouldn't do some of the things he does."

Former Barca and Real Madrid midfielder Michael Laudrup, commentating on Barcelona's 5-1 win over Leganes for beIN Sports, suggested Neymar's manner of playing was provocative and claimed it was natural that opposition players would be tempted to kick him.

Right-back Juanfran faces the challenge of stopping the 24-year-old when fourth-placed Atletico travel to second-placed Barca.

And he said: "For me, the things that happen on the pitch I try to leave on the pitch. He has his way of playing -- he's behaved in the same way since he was young.

"Personally, though, I wouldn't do some of things he does. I grew up in a different environment.

"I do things as I believe, and he does them as he believes. But it's not better or worse than his -- just different."

Neymar was criticised by Gabi and coach Diego Simeone after an ill-tempered game against Atletico in the Copa del Rey last year.

But former Valencia and Milan forward Leonardo feels he has matured since moving to Europe and his style has changed.

"Neymar's improved a lot," he told Radio Barcelona. "Initially he was a little like that. In Brazil there were many times when he'd go down, look for contact and ask for fouls and all that.

"What you get with Neymar is a really cheerful and natural [person]. I think [his style of play] is more about that than humiliating or provoking someone in a negative way."

Argentina legend Mario Kempes, meanwhile, told Radio Marca: "[Real Madrid duo] Marcelo, even as a defender, and Cristiano Ronaldo do worse things than Neymar and nobody says anything," he said on Radio Marca.

"Neymar plays the same way in Brazil, on Copacabana beach, because that's the way they play in his country -- and I say that as an Argentine. He didn't want to wind anyone up [against Leganes]."
