Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Lionel Messi in line to face Celtic

Marc-Andre ter Stegen could return when Barcelona host Celtic in their Champions League opener on Tuesday, with Lionel Messi in line to make his first start since returning from international duty with a groin problem.

A hamstring injury forced ter Stegen to sit out the home defeat to Alaves at the weekend, with Jasper Cillessen making his debut in place of the German goalkeeper.

Both keepers, along with Jordi Masip, trained on Monday, and Barca boss Luis Enrique has to decide which to start against the Scottish champions.

"Ter Stegen trained fully," he said at a news conference on Monday. "We will see [on Tuesday] who is in the squad but he did the whole session, which is positive."

Cillessen was not at fault for either Alaves goal, and Luis Enrique said he had been impressed with how the Dutch international has settled in following his summer transfer from Ajax.

"He is doing well -- that is why we signed him," he added. "He didn't have much luck in the goals because they were two good moves by Alaves. He is doing well in what we look for from a Barca goalkeeper."

Messi and Luis Suarez came on as second half substitutes against Alaves as the Blaugrana searched in vain for an equaliser.

Messi has been struggling with a niggling groin probem for two weeks, while Suarez returned late from international duty.

Luis Enrique is expected to pair them with Neymar for the first time this season, but said: "I would want Messi to play every minute, but it depends on how he feels.

"If he can play the maximum number of minutes, then better for him and for the team -- but how he feels will determine how many minutes he plays."
