Barcelona's Luis Suarez won't put pressure on himself to improve

Barcelona star Luis Suarez has said that he hopes to continue to improve as he gears up for the season.

The 29-year-old saw his Copa America Centenario participation limited after sustaining a hamstring injury in Barcelona's Copa del Rey victory to close out the season in May.

In this transfer window, Barcelona have focused on strengthening the squad with young, hungry players. They have brought in Denis Suarez, Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes -- all of whom are 22.

Meanwhile, coach Luis Enrique and sporting director Roberto Fernandez are in search of another forward to cover for the trio of Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

Suarez, the 2015-16 winner of both the Golden Shoe and the Pichichi trophy, has scored 84 goals across 96 matches for Barcelona in the past two seasons.

He had 59 goals in all competitions last season. His previous high was 49 with Ajax in 2009-10.

The Uruguay international, however, believes he and the club can get better.

"Last season's numbers were very good and I am not going to put any more pressure on myself," Suarez told Marca after the club's training session at Burton Upon Trent. "By being here, I am showing that it is clear that I will be trying to improve upon them because I am on the best team in the world."

Suarez has been photographed along with Messi, who cut short his summer holiday to join the club early. The two have been inseparable in training this week.

Barcelona's other forward, Neymar, is currently preparing to play for Brazil when his home country debuts at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 4 against South Africa.

Suarez reiterated that he wants to get back to doing work.

"I am a forward and I like to score goals," he said. "I am here to help the club."
