Barcelona did 'all they could' to sign Celta Vigo's Nolito in January window

Barcelona sporting vice-president Jordi Mestre revealed that the Catalan giants were very keen on acquiring Nolito from Celta Vigo in the January transfer window.

Nolito, who was a former Barca B player has been one of the most impressive players at Celta, scoring seven goals in his first nine league appearances, before missing their last six games with a hamstring injury.

With Luis Enrique putting Nolito as his top target for January, the club did everything they could to sign the player, but Celta refused to budge.

"Barcelona put in all they could, plus even more to try and sign him," Mestre told Mundo Deportivo gala.

"But on the other side, Celta did not give in."

Celta sporting director Miguel Torrecilla has always been firm about his star player's price, and was not ready to allow Nolito to leave for less than his €18 million release clause.
