Barcelona want a new striker - president Josep Maria Bartomeu

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that Luis Enrique wants to add a striker to his squad in January.

Barcelona were banned by FIFA from making any transfers for a year after irregularities were found in their signing of young players, but still pushed through deals for Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal without being able to register them to play.

Now, with the ban coming to an end and recent injuries to star forwards Lionel Messi and Neymar, the club are keen to bolster their forward line.

"The coach and the technical staff want a striker. If he comes it will be a loan deal with a right to buy," Bartomeu told Sport. "We'll also have Arda Turan and Vidal coming in, who are two great players."

The future of Neymar has been the subject of speculation in recent months, but Bartomeu said he was confident that the Brazilian star would commit by signing a new contract at Camp Nou.

"I've been talking with his father in the last few days but what Barca have done it to move things forward and call Neymar, recognising that we pay him less than he deserves and offering to start speaking about updating his contract," he added.

"I'm convinced that in the next few months we'll reach an agreement with Neymar. He represents the future of Barca and it's not just me who says that."
