Xavi preparing to step into management, eyes Barcelona return

Xavi is preparing himself for management in the Aspire Academy in Qatar, with one eye on a coaching position back at his beloved Barcelona.

The former Barca midfielder is currently playing for Al Sadd in the Qatar Stars League, but it also taking the first steps in picking up his coaching badges.

He had a glittering career with the Catalan giants, winning eight La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, and three Copas del Rey -- not to forget being a double European Championship winner and lifting the World Cup with Spain.

The 35-year-old is winding down his career with a spell in Qatar, and hopes his coaching career one day takes him back to the Camp Nou.

"I like the pitch, being close to the actual football and what happens in the game itself," Xavi told a news conference for Qatar's Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy. "I'm going to learn the trade -- I've already started my education here at the Aspire Academy.

"I'm following Spanish football from over here [Qatar] while I'm still playing, and I'm really enjoying myself.

"After that, I don't know what the future will hold for me, but of course I'd like to return to Barca one day.

"That's my aim, and the closer it is to the pitch, the better."
