Rafinha Alcantara is in talks to sign a contract extension at Barcelona, his father and agent Mazinho has said.

Barca are keen to keep Rafinha, 22, beyond the expiry of his current contract in June next year.

Mazinho Alcantara told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: "We are already negotiating. There should not be any problems for Rafinha to continue."

Rafinha Alcantara is a Barcelona youth product who joined the club's first team squad in May 2014 following a successful loan at Celta Vigo.

The Brazilian made 21 starts in all competitions last season, but the departure of veteran midfielder Xavi Hernandez and the club's inability to field summer signing Arda Turan until January, when their transfer ban expires, has afforded him more playing time.

Rafinha started in Barca's 1-0 triumph at Athletic Bilbao in their league opener last month and came on as a substitute in the 1-0 victory over Malaga last weekend.

The attacking midfielder has played for Spain up to Under-19 level but has chosen, unlike his brother Thiago, to represent Brazil at senior level.

He was included in Carlos Dunga's latest national squad and could make his Brazil debut against Costa Rica in New Jersey on Saturday.
