Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta: We can turn around the tie

Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta is refusing to concede defeat after the Catalans were thrashed 4-0 by Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of the Spanish Supercopa to leave their hopes of winning six trophies in 2015 in tatters.

Barca made it four trophies from four on Tuesday night when they beat Sevilla 5-4 after extra-time to win the UEFA Super Cup, but they were brought crashing back to earth in stunning style three days later at San Mames.

Mikel San Jose's breathtaking goal from inside the centre circle gave Athletic a half-time lead and then Aritz Aduriz scored three times in 15 second-half minutes to all but settle the Supercopa ahead of Monday's second leg.

But second-half substitute Iniesta, who joined the action moments before Barca conceded for the second time on the night, remains adamant that the European champions can overturn the four-goal deficit when the sides lock horns at the Camp Nou.

"From the first minute we leave thinking we can turn around the tie," the 31-year-old midfielder told his club's website.

"It's complicated, but not impossible. We must believe we can do it.

"We made many mistakes and we have been penalised with a heavy loss. When things do not go your way you have to improve and not let it happen again."

Full-back Dani Alves, who conceded the penalty that allowed Aduriz to record his quick-fire hat-trick, agrees with Iniesta's opinion that all is not lost.

"I do not know if the result does justice or not, but it is what it is," the Brazil defender said.

"We have not kept pace and now we must try to improve and compete at the maximum to overcome.

"We never we give up, and now even less so. We have enough credibility so that people trust the team, and 90 minutes at the Nou Camp is a very long time."
