Lionel Messi 'impossible to describe' says Barcelona's Javier Mascherano

Barcelona centre-back Javier Mascherano was full of praise for teammate Lionel Messi, as the Argentine's magical touch in front of goal turned the blaugrana's semifinal tie with Bayern Munich in Barca's favour on Wednesday.

Messi scored a pair of brilliant goals in the latter stages of Barca's 3-0 victory over former coach Pep Guardiola's men at the Camp Nou, giving the Catalan side a healthy advantage heading into the second-leg tie in Munich.

"We have Messi and that is a big advantage," he told Sky Sports.

"It is a player that is impossible to describe. You just have to watch him. We are happy because he helped us to get the result."

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic echoed Mascherano's assessment of the influential Argentine.

"It's unbelievable," he said. "For these moments, he's the biggest player in history so we're really happy he's in our team. It's really important for us all the work he's doing for us, and we hopes his next game will be like today."

A cautious Mascherano, however, insisted Barca are not thinking of a place in next month's final in Berlin just yet.

"We have the advantage, but we know how difficult it is going to be in Germany," he said. "It is a good advantage, but it is not done. We have to go in with the same mentality that we did today and do our job.

"They came to press higher and when you do that, you take risks. We have a lot of people up front with quality to make the difference.

"It was a very tight game," he continued. "Both teams had chances to score, we probably had the better chances. We played the way we wanted and so we are very pleased."
