Barcelona's Sergio Busquets could miss Man City and Real Madrid games

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is likely to miss Wednesday's Champions League last-16 second leg at home to Manchester City and remains a big doubt for Sunday's La Liga Clasico against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.

Busquets, 26, suffered an ankle ligament injury in the Copa del Rey semifinal second-leg win at Villarreal on March 4 and has been undergoing intense recovery work since, although he has yet to return to training with his teammates.

Another fitness concern for Barca coach Luis Enrique is backup right-back Martin Montoya, who picked up a facial injury in the 2-0 win at Eibar on Saturday, and will now need to wear a facial mask to protect the affected area.

Montoya's condition was specified in a club statement, which also revealed that Busquets had not been able to take any part in Sunday's group training session.

"Martin Montoya was unable to join the rest of his teammates after being diagnosed with a small fracture to his cheek bone -- the result of an untimely blow to the face in the first half of Saturday's match," the statement read.

"The defender trained on his own Sunday morning and will wear a protective mask in the coming days. The injured Sergio Busquets and Thomas Vermaelen did not participate either."

With Spanish media pessimistic about Busquets' chances of recovery, Javier Mascherano now looks set to play in defensive midfield against City and could feature there against Madrid, although Luis Enrique has said Ivan Rakitic can also fill in if required.

Dani Alves sat out the Eibar win due to suspension, but is expected to come straight back into the XI for Wednesday's game against City, into which Barca take a 2-1 lead from last month's first leg at the Etihad Stadium.
