Pep Guardiola: Messi record 'will not last for 60 years, but 600 years'

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has praised his former player Lionel Messi, saying that the Argentine's goal-scoring record in La Liga will not be beaten for centuries to come.

The Barcelona striker went past Telmo Zarra's record with a hat-trick against Sevilla at the weekend to take him to 253 goals.

Messi produced some of his greatest football under Guardiola -- with the pair winning three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues together -- and of the striker's latest record, Guardiola said: "He is only 27 years old and he has already beaten the record. His record will not last for 60 years, but 600 years.''

After recent speculation over his future, Bayern are another club that have been linked with Messi, but Guardiola insisted would like to see him stay with the Catalan giants.

He said: "I hope that Messi will end his career with Barcelona, because he has given so much to the club and he loves the club.''
