Luis Suarez set to start for Barca in Catalan Supercopa vs. Espanyol

Luis Suarez looks set to start in Barcelona's Catalan Supercopa game against Espanyol on Wednesday night.

Suarez made his first competitive appearance for Barcelona in Saturday's 3-1 clasico defeat at Real Madrid, with his fourth month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the summer's World Cup having ended the night before.

The 80 million euro summer signing from Liverpool, who has not been named in FIFA's provisional 23 man shortlist for the 2014 Ballon d'Or despite winning the 2013-14 Golden Boot award, impressed in setting up his side's only goal for Neymar but understandably faded in the second half given his lack of competitive action over recent months.

Blaugrana coach Luis Enrique is now expected to use Wednesday's Catalan showpiece game -- an annual friendly clash being played at Girona's Montilivi stadium -- to give Suarez some more playing time, alongside other members of his squad who have not featured regularly yet this season.

A club statement released on Tuesday suggested that Neymar and Lionel Messi would be rested for the game, while saying that utility man Adriano Correia was close to a return from his latest injury issue.

"On Tuesday morning, the first team trained for the second time of the week on pitch 2 at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, with the main focus being on Wednesday evening's Catalan Super Cup match with Espanyol, although next weekend's Liga clash with Luis Enrique's former club Celta was also surely on many minds," the statement said.

"As on Monday, the injured Andrés Iniesta underwent physiotherapy, while Messi, Neymar, [Thomas] Vermaelen and Douglas also did specific exercises. But Adriano Correia was able to complete the session normally with the rest of the group, which included Munir [El Haddadi] from the reserve team."

Munir and fellow youngster Sandro Ramirez are likely to start up front alongside Suarez against Espanyol. Other squad and youth players including goalkeeper Jordi Masip, defenders Martin Montoya and Alejandro Grimaldo and midfielders Sergio Roberto and Sergi Samper, are also tipped to feature.
