Austria-Germany friendly in Klagenfurt delayed by torrential rain and thunder

Germany's friendly in Austria was delayed by 100 minutes amid torrential downpours in the city of Klagenfurt.

The game at the Worthersee Stadium had originally been scheduled to kick off at 18:00 local time, but with a little over 10 minutes to go until that time, Germany general manager Oliver Bierhof told ZDF kick-off had been put back because of the conditions.

Officials then said the kick-off time would be revised to 18:30 before putting it back by a further five minutes.

But with players from both teams having emerged for a warm-up, the rain worsened as a thunderstorm swept in and officials said pitch conditions, with puddles of standing water gathering, would be checked at 18:45, with the new time scheduled to be 19:15.

However, despite a brightening of conditions that time proved to be too soon, with kick-off finally taking place at 19:40.
