Melbourne Victory sign Albania international Basha

Melbourne Victory have bolstered their midfield with the signing of experienced Albania international Migjen Basha on a two-year deal.

Basha joins the A-League club after spending last season with Greek outfit Aris Thessaloniki.

The 32-year-old defensive midfielder follows in the footsteps of former Victory star striker Besart Berisha, who won 17 caps for Albania before switching his allegiance to Kosovo.

Basha has made 33 appearances for Albania and most recently played for his country in June during Euro 2020 qualifying.

Victory coach Marco Kurz was delighted to welcome another experienced player in Basha, with his signing completing the club's international allocation.

"I'm very pleased to add another international with such experience to our squad," Kurz said in a statement.

"Given he has played at the highest level domestically I believe he will be a strong leader amongst the group.

"With midfielders Jakob [Poulsen] and Kristijan [Dobras] having also arrived, we're really pleased with the talent we've managed to add ahead of round one."

Basha started his career in his birth country Switzerland before stints in Italy, where he helped Torino earn promotion from Serie B.

He spent four seasons at the club before returning to Switzerland with Luzern, only to make the move back to Italy with time at Como and Bari prior to joining Aris ahead of the 2018-19 season.
