Central Coast Mariners sign ex-Melbourne Victory defender Alan Baro
The Central Coast Mariners have signed Melbourne Victory defender Alan Baro on a two-year A-League deal.
Baro, 31, was a mainstay of the Victory's back four this season and started in the side's penalty shootout Grand Final loss to Sydney FC this month.
The Spaniard, who was released by the Victory, is vastly experienced, having played for the likes of Osasuna and Ponferradina in his homeland prior to coming to Australia.
He is Mariners coach Paul Okon's second foreign offseason signing after the former Socceroo landed Dutch midfielder Tom Hiariej.
"Once we knew that he was being released from Melbourne Victory, he became our number one target to strengthen our defence," Okon said.
"Not only is Alan a great defender but he will bring a wealth of experience to our team."
Baro is ready to hit the ground running with the battling Mariners.
"This season we want to compete every game -- I want to help the team improve and I am confident we can achieve great things under Paul Okon," Baro said.
