Liverpool set to take on A-League premiers Sydney FC - report

Liverpool could be set to meet A-League frontrunners Sydney FC, with the English heavyweights reportedly in negotiations to play their first game in the harbour city.

The match is set for the 83,500-seat ANZ Stadium next month, the Australian reports, ahead of the Sky Blues' meeting with Premier League club Arsenal on July 13.

The Jurgen Klopp-coached Liverpool, the third-placed EPL side, have visited Australia twice before, claiming a 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory at a packed MCG in 2013.

They also beat Adelaide United 2-0 and Brisbane Roar in 2015, with both matches drawing 50,000-plus crowds.

Liverpool would be a major test for title favourites Sydney FC, who lead the A-League by 17 points, with potential encounters with Premier League stars Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge.
