John Aloisi dismisses Adelaide United link as 'total rubbish'

John Aloisi has rubbished a report claiming he was considering a $500,000-move to Adelaide next season.

The Brisbane Roar coach angrily denied a report from SBS which claims his "mind may have been swayed" to replace Guillermo Amor at Adelaide by the offer.

"I'm really upset in having to even comment on someone ... this is the fifth time he's written a story that just is untrue," Aloisi said after their 3-1 win over 10-man Newcastle.

"It's total rubbish, the day before a game. It's not the first time. He's done it with other players, our players, and now he's done it with me.

"I haven't spoken to anyone from Adelaide United, neither has my brother.

"Adelaide United haven't contacted my agent. It's disrespect to us as a football club, Adelaide as a football club and I'm just disappointed that even gets published."

Earlier on Sunday, Adelaide chairman Greg Griffin said the story was "completely untrue" and the club had not made any contact with Aloisi or his assistant coach and brother, Ross.

Aloisi, who is off contract at season's end, said he did not need to talk to his players about the speculation "because I'm pretty sure they realise that it's not a true story."

"It wasn't a distraction because the players know that I'm with them all the way," he said.

"I want to stay at Brisbane Roar. There's still things we have to work out but I want to stay here."

Aloisi praised his team's performance after two second-half goals from Jamie Maclaren, including one from the penalty spot, and a late sealer from Nicholas D'Agostino kept Roar in fourth place.

Aloisi was proud of his team's "dominant performance" especially since it came after their 6-0 defeat to South Korean side Ulsan Hyundai in the Asian Champions League.

"It was important to get this period over with because when we looked back we knew we had a really tough period and we wanted to be there or thereabouts once this was finished," he said.

"So now we've got nine days before our next game in Japan [against Kashima Antlers], then out of our last five [A-League] games, we've got three at home, so we're quite positive, with players coming back that we can really kick on.

"It's important for us that we make finals, and not only that, we go in with confidence and a fully strength side, because if we do that, we're confident we can beat anyone, whether it's home or away."

Sunday's win has Roar equal third with Melbourne City and a point ahead of Perth on the A-League ladder.
