The Western Sydney Wanderers are set to get their long-desired A-League safe standing section after it was included in the final plans for Parramatta's new stadium.
The NSW Government on Thursday revealed the eye-catching design for the new 30,000-capacity boutique stadium to be built on the site of the Wanderers' original home ground of Pirtek Stadium.
The venue, also home to NRL club the Parramatta Eels, is set to be completed in 2019 and feature the steepest grandstands in Australia that will bring fans closer to the action than ever before.
Wanderers chief executive John Tsatsimas said he was yet to be taken through the specifics of the plans, to be brought to life by construction giant Lendlease.
But it's also understood the club have been told their request for a section of safe standing seats behind goal has been approved and will be implemented.
It means vocal active supporter group, the Red and Black Bloc, will become the first in Australia to experience a dedicated standing end.
Safe standing has been used in Europe for some time and, in Germany in particular, proven to be a resounding atmospheric success.
"One prime consideration for us is safe standing," Tsatsimas said.
"It allows a certain number of people to stand, dance and be vocal and more vociferous than your normal punter at a match, and will be an exciting proposition."
It's unclear whether Sydney derbies will be held at the redeveloped stadium.
The record-breaking 61,880 who turned up to the round-one derby at ANZ Stadium in October suggests a much larger venue would better cater for the fixture's increasing popularity.
Tsatsimas said there were simply too many unknowns to confirm at this early stage.
"These are all issues now that we've got to digest," he said.
