Western Sydney's Redmayne ready for second chance in A-League final

Dropped for new recruit Liam Reddy, and then just as suddenly recalled for the A-League season's crescendo, Andrew Redmayne is set to start between the posts against Adelaide United.

He has kept a clear mind throughout an uncertain A-League campaign, but now, Western Sydney Wanderers goalkeeper Redmayne is maintaining focus for the biggest assignment of his career in Sunday's Grand Final at the Adelaide Oval.

As the last defensive barrier in the Wanderers' third attempt to win a maiden title, the 27-year-old's performance in his first Grand Final will be vital.

But the very fact he's spent all year -- and much of his senior career -- proving his capabilities to his coach is the main reason the pressure doesn't feel overwhelming.

"It has been a rollercoaster year, but every week I prepare as if I'm playing and as if there's a selection to be made," Redmayne told AAP.

"I like to think that's held me in good stead for moments like this where you just want to prepare and keep a clear mind."

Redmayne signed with Western Sydney in last year's off-season soon after losing his Melbourne City starting spot to Tando Velaphi.

Before that he sat on the Brisbane bench and watched as Michael Theo helped the Roar win two championships.

History looked to be repeating itself in February when, without warning, he was left out for the third Sydney derby and Reddy promoted in his place.

"The boss has tough decisions to make week to week, and that was his decision that week," Redmayne said.

"But I kept my head down and bum up and kept working hard, and I like to think that really shines through."

Coach Tony Popovic reinstalled the AIS product with two regular-season rounds to go, and left him there for the weekend's crunch semifinal against Brisbane.

The 1.94m Redmayne has lost six kilograms thanks to the club's famously demanding training regime.

With that has grown a self-assuredness he'll need in abundance against a Reds side with a full-throttle attack.

"My body has found its ideal playing weight," Redmayne said. "I'm definitely working the hardest I've ever worked, and physically and mentally I'm the fittest I've ever been.

"I'm feeling stronger and more powerful and getting through games better.

"It's amazing what hard work and buying into a new philosophy does for you."
