Brisbane Roar return to the top as Melbourne City title hopes falter

Melbourne City's hopes of winning the Premiers' Plate are in tatters after they lost 3-2 at Perth Glory in Sunday's A-League clash.

Glory striker Andy Keogh scored one and set up two others as Perth ran riot in the second half.

Keogh's goal saw him break the Australian national league record for goals in consecutive games after netting in eight successive matches.

Gyorgy Sandor and Diego Castro also struck as Glory raced into a 3-0 lead, before City striker Bruno Fornaroli pulled one back after 73 minutes and Marc Marino added another in stoppage time.

The result left City three points adrift of leaders Brisbane Roar with just one round remaining.

It means they need to beat Adelaide next week and rely on a host of other results to go their way if they are to finish on top.

Glory's 10th win from 11 matches has put them within touching distance of a home final, with the club now just one point adrift of fourth-placed City ahead of their final-round match against Sydney.

Earlier, Brisbane Roar returned to the top of the A-League table after a battling 2-1 win at home to Newcastle Jets.

They had to recover from 1-0 down after Jets went in front from the penalty spot after the break, with the goal coming after a scrappy and forgettable opening 45 minutes.

Leonardo converted from the spot just four minutes into the half after Jade North was adjudged to have handled in the area.

But the game changed when Newcastle skipper Michael Boogaard was sent off for bringing down Henrique in the area, with the Brazilian getting to his feet to convert the penalty.

And with just over 15 minutes remaining, Thomas Broich was played in by a clever dummy from Henrique and fired low into the corner for the winner.
