Jamie Maclaren hat trick sees Brisbane Roar hammer Melbourne Victory

SYDNEY -- Forward Jamie Maclaren scored three goals to lead the Brisbane Roar to a 5-0 win over the Melbourne Victory and into first place in the A-League.

Corey Browne and Corona were also on target in the triumph for John Aloisi's side.

The emphatic home victory moved Brisbane two points clear of Adelaide United and three ahead of Melbourne City and the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Earlier on Saturday, Wellington scored three first-half goals and went on to beat Sydney FC 3-1, damaging Sydney's chances of making the six-team playoffs.

Blake Powell scored in the 12th minute, Hamish Watson two minutes later and Roly Bonevacia just before half-time for the Phoenix. Filip Holosko scored Sydney's only goal in the 51st minute.

Sydney remain a point behind Perth for the sixth and final playoff spot with four rounds remaining after this weekend.

On Sunday, Western Sydney will have a chance to move level on points with the Roar with a win over Newcastle.
