Shane Smeltz strikes late for Sydney FC at Western Sydney Wanderers

A late goal from Shane Smeltz handed Sydney FC a 2-1 win over rivals Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League.

Jacques Faty opened the scoring for the visitors on 22 minutes but the Wanderers hit back in the second half through Dario Vidosic.

Smeltz had the final say in the derby, scoring in the 90th minute with a thumping effort that put his side level on points with their second-placed opponents.

Elsewhere, Adelaide United defeated bottom-of-the-table Central Coast Mariners 3-1 with all the goals coming in the second half.

Craig Goodwin put Adelaide 1-0 up but the away side responded through Fabio Ferreira in the 67th minute.

But late goals from Pablo Sanchez and Mate Dugandzic put the game beyond the Mariners.

Perth Glory battled for a 2-2 draw at home to Melbourne City FC after being reduced to 10 men in the second half.

Erik Paartalu put Melbourne in front before Diego Castro equalised in first-half injury time.

Aaron Mooy restored the visitors' advantage but Chris Harold hit back three minutes before Jacob Collard received a second yellow for Perth Glory.
