Melbourne City beat Western Sydney, Adelaide United see off Perth Glory

Harry Novillo scored a late winner to give Melbourne City a 3-2 victory over Western Sydney in the A-League on Saturday, ending the Wanderers' 10-match unbeaten streak.

First-half goals from Novillo and Bruno Fornaroli saw City take an early 2-0 lead before Mitch Nichols slipped a volley through City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen's fingers and Aaron Hughes scored an own goal from Romeo Castelen's cross.

With five minutes remaining, winger Novillo picked up an uncontested ball and curled a shot past former City keeper Andrew Redmayne.

Earlier on Saturday, Iraqi-born midfielder Ali Abbas scored the clinching goal on his return from a season-long knee injury to give Sydney FC a 2-0 win over Newcastle Jets.

Filip Holosko scored the opening goal for Sydney after 15 minutes.

In the day's final game, Adelaide United fell behind to a sixth-minute goal from Perth Glory's Chris Harold before coming back for a 3-1 win.

Sergio Cirio scored in the 27th minute, Marcelo Carrusca struck in the 47th and Craig Goodwin added the third Adelaide goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

On Sunday, first-place Brisbane Roar, level on 27 points with Western Sydney, travel to the New Zealand capital to play Wellington Phoenix.

City are three points behind in third place, level on points with Sydney FC.
