Besert Berisha scored twice to lead Melbourne Victory to a 4-2 win at first-placed Sydney FC.

Albanian forward Berisha's goals helped Victory move into third, only a point behind their opponents, as Sydney suffered their first loss of the year.

Finkler Guilherme and Kosta Barbarouses also struck for Melbourne, with Sydney's goals, both in the first half, coming from Alex Brosque and Filip Holosko.

Goals came late as the match between Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners ended in a 1-1 draw.

A 91st-minute equaliser from Central Coast's Matt Sim followed a goal in the 83rd minute by Newcastle's Serbian striker Milos Trifunovic.

Second-place Brisbane are at home to Perth on Sunday to conclude the sixth round of fixtures.

The results left five teams -- Brisbane, Victory, Western Sydney, Newcastle and Wellington -- a point behind Sydney.
