Sydney FC beat Central Coast Mariners, Brisbane Roar win

Sydney FC made it 10 consecutive victories away from home as they beat 10-man Central Coast Mariners 3-1 in the A-League on Saturday.

Shane Smeltz put Sydney FC in front in 34th minute following some neat buildup play, but Central Coast responded less than 90 seconds later through Irish striker Roy O'Donovan.

Central Coast were then denied a clear-cut penalty when O'Donovan beat the offside trap only to be brought down by Sydney FC keeper Vedran Janjetovic, and their task became much harder shortly before the break when Nick Fitzgerald was shown a second yellow card for a reckless challenge in the air on Milos Dimitijevic.

Ex-Mariners' forward Matt Simon then came off the bench just before the hour mark to score a brace in the final 10 minutes of the match to secure victory for Sydney FC.

Brisbane Roar are second, a point behind Sydney FC, after a 3-0 win at home to Adelaide United.

Brandon Borrello opened the scoring with a tap-in on 10 minutes.

The score remained 1-0 until the 79th minute, when Jamie Maclaren doubled the hosts' lead with a superb solo goal, and Borrello extended their advantage in injury time.
