Sydney FC edge Wanderers in derby to top A-League; Phoenix beat Brisbane

Western Sydney Wanderers' poor start to the season continued after Milos Ninkovic's late goal earned Sydney FC a 1-0 derby win to go top of the A-League on Saturday.

Wanderers thought they had taken the lead on the stroke of half-time at the Allianz Stadium with Jaushua Sotirio's clever backwards header, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

There were few chances for either side in the second half, but Ninkovic worked his way into the Wanderers' penalty area before firing a low shot past Andrew Redmayne three minutes from time.

Ninkovic's shot was Sydney's first effort on target, but the result leaves the Wanderers with just one point from their opening three games.

Wellington Phoenix earned a 3-2 victory over Brisbane Roar in Saturday's A-League clash at Westpac Stadium.

The Phoenix had beaten the Roar just four times in 24 matches ahead of the game, and Dimitri Petratos put the visitors ahead 26 minutes in.

Michael McGlinchey got the hosts back into the game with a fine free kick 10 minutes before half-time, and Roy Krishna handed the Phoenix the lead four minutes after the break following a fine one-two with Jeffrey Sarpong.

Jade North hit back for the Roar on the hour with a volley, but Blake Powell hit the winner for the Phoenix 78 minutes in from close range after a Tom Doyle cross.
