Fabio Ferreira hits brace as Central Coast Mariners see off Perth Glory

Fabio Ferreira struck twice from the penalty spot to inspire Central Coast Mariners to a 3-2 A-League victory over Perth Glory at the Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday.

It was Roy O'Donovan who opened the scoring for the Mariners inside the opening 10 minutes, only for Richard Garcia to draw the visitors level shortly after.

Perth, however, gave away two penalties inside nine minutes in the second half, with Ferreira successfully converting both spot kicks to fire his side back into the lead.

Gyorgy Sandor pulled one back for Perth deep into stoppage time, but the hosts were able to hold on for the three points in their opening clash of the new A-League campaign.

Sydney FC and Melbourne City FC had to settle for a share of the spoils in their opening A-League game of the season as they played out a 1-1 draw.

It was visitors Melbourne who opened the scoring in the 16th minute at the Allianz Stadium, with Wade Dekker pouncing on a Sydney error before converting at the near post in his first game for the club.

The home side, however, drew level on the stroke of half-time as Filip Holosko tapped in Alex Brosque's delivery deep into stoppage time.

Sydney looked the more likely to go on and win after the break, only for Thomas Sorensen to make a number of saves to secure Melbourne a point.
