Perth Glory could be docked points before the end of the season if found guilty of breaching the A-League's salary cap.
Head of the A-League Damien de Bohun says that fourth placed Glory -- who sit only one point off the top of the table -- may have made a "significant and serious" breach of the A$2.55 million cap.
For the second time this season, the West Australian club have been issued with a show-cause notice from the A-League.
"There's a whole range of sanctions available for those who know the regulations well. It could be anything from a fine through to suspension of points," de Bohun told the ABC. "The show-cause notice which we've issued to Perth Glory alleges the non-disclosure of payments and benefits. The amount of the alleged breaches would place Perth Glory significantly over the salary cap this year.
"We obviously take situations of deliberate concealment much more seriously than simple administrative mistakes and debates around interpretations of the regulations."
Perth Glory chief executive Jason Brewer refused to confirm if payments to striker Andy Keogh -- who is reportedly at the centre of one of the irregularities - were under investigation. But he added that the club are determined to improve their off-field processes.
"I can't confirm whether any payments have been made in any particular way. We've got a process, we've got to respond to the FFA on a number of questions. Once that's done we'll move from there," he said.
Perth, who have never won the A-League, are enjoying their best season in the 10-year history of the competition. They were at the top of the table for more than half the season. They travel to Newcastle Jets on Sunday for a Round 24 match.
De Bohun said that while Perth Glory had been given one week to respond to the accusations, the A-League intended to act swiftly -- before the end of the season -- if sanctions were needed.
"That's certainly the intention from our perspective," he said. "It's a tremendous race this year and we want to ensure that every fan knows that their club has an equal chance of success."
