Melbourne City ground out a 1-0 home victory over Brisbane Roar to reinforce their hold on a playoff place.

The victory puts sixth-placed Melbourne eight points ahead of reigning champions Brisbane with just five games remaining, although there is only one place between the teams in the table.

The decisive goal was scored by Jonatan Germano early on, and a Roar side missing Thomas Broich and skipper Matt McKay were unable to find a response.

Meanwhile, Perth Glory ended a nine-match run without a win with a dramatic 3-2 triumph over Western Sydney Wanderers.

Josh Risdon struck the winner from 25 yards with only three minutes remaining, with his side's other goals coming from Sidnei Sciola and Rostyn Griffiths.

Wanderers had led in the first half thanks to a Romeo Castelen goal and took a 2-1 advantage after the break through striker Kerem Bulut -- but they were unable to hold on.
