They aren't Barcelona, but Perth go seven points clear top of A-League

Perth Glory head coach Kenny Lowe says his team must keep improving before the A-League finals, despite holding a seven-point lead at the top of the table after Friday night's 2-1 victory over Melbourne Victory.

After 32 points from 13 games, Glory have already passed their 2013-2014 total of 28 points for the entire season.

But Lowe isn't getting carried away and admits that his side are looking forward to the A-League mid-season break because of the AFC Asian Cup on Australian soil. The regional tournament begins on Jan. 9.

"We ain't Brazil, we ain't Barcelona, but we're quite efficient at what we do," Lowe told abc.net.au.

"But we need to get better. I want to get better, it's not just the players. I want to be better, I want to learn."

Glory increased the gap between themselves and second-placed Melbourne Victory with an impressive road win at Simonds Stadium in Geelong, near Melbourne.

The Western Australian side raced to a 2-0 lead within 17 minutes after goals by Andy Keogh and Chris Harold.

It has give long-suffering fans hope that Glory go all the way in this 10th edition of the A-League, despite being written off by many critics before the season started.

They will face Adelaide United at home on Monday before the Asian Cup break which will give English-born Lowe a chance to access his playing stocks.

"It's great for us, we've got a lot of sore bodies," Lowe said. "It'll be good for us to regroup, refresh and maybe re-evaluate what we've done."

Republic of Ireland striker Andy Keogh has made a big impact in his first season with Glory, scoring eight goals in 12 matches.

Perth finished eighth in the 10-team competition last season and have never won the A-League. That's despite being premiers of the old National Soccer League (NSL) title on three occasions, including the last NSL season in 2003-2004.
