Melbourne Victory show spirit to claim point against Newcastle Jets

Melbourne Victory had to come from 2-0 down to salvage a 2-2 draw with Newcastle Jets and retake the lead of the A-League.

Two goals in three minutes, former Netherlands defender Kew Jaliens' opener and Joel Griffiths' penalty, seemed to have the Jets soaring towards their first win of the season.

But Fahid Ben Khalfallah quickly halved the deficit and Besart Berisha snatched a point early in the second half.

The Victory's local rivals Melbourne City won 3-1 away to rock-bottom Brisbane Roar, who remain without a point after four games.

David Williams and Mate Dugandzic scored in the first 10 minutes and, although half-time substitute Brandon Borello pulled a goal back, Marc Marino made the game safe for City.

It was a first win of the season for City and came after the early departure of former Spain striker David Villa to New York City. Both clubs are affiliates of English Premier League champions Manchester City.
