Western Sydney Wanderers ruined Harry Kewell's farewell party as they scored twice late on to beat the Melbourne Heart 3-2 at AAMI Stadium
Kewell's final game following a glittering career -- including two World Cup finals appearances and winning the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool -- looked set to end with a win as the Heart led 2-1 with 10 minutes left.
However, Brendan Santalab and Youssuf Hersi struck near the end to confirm the Wanderers would finish the A-League regular season in second place and with it secure a home semifinal.
Nikolai Topor-Stanley headed the visitors in front after 27 minutes but, with Kewell impressing, last-placed Heart surged ahead through Orlando Engelaar and Jason Hoffman.
Shinji Ono had blazed a penalty against the crossbar in between time, but it did not matter as Santalab equalised before Hersi pounced on some hesitant defending to win the game.
The match was also likely to be the final time the Heart played under that name, and in their red and white colours, with Manchester City's takeover set to start next season.
Brisbane Roar will head into the finals on the back of a 2-0 defeat to the Central Coast Mariners.
The Roar had long tied up the champion's plate, and direct passage into the second week of the finals where they could face the Mariners.
The Mariners must first get past either Adelaide United or Sydney FC next weekend, although they will be buoyed by first-half goals from Nick Fitzgerald and Anthony Caceres.
The Melbourne Victory will also be at home next weekend after they thrashed the Wellington Phoenix 4-1.
Archie Thompson, James Troisi and Guilherme Finkler were all on target in a dominant first half. Mark Milligan slotted a 59th-minute penalty after Shaun Timmins was sent off.
The Phoenix at least got on the scoreboard in stoppage-time through Jeremy Brockie.
