Matildas star Samantha Kerr has added another chapter to her growing list of accolades, taking home the ESPY award for Best International Women's Soccer Player on Wednesday.
For the Australia international, who divides her club time between Perth Glory in Australia's W-League and the NWSL's Chicago Red Stars, the award capped off a stellar 12 months in which she was also named the AFC Women's Footballer of the Year.
The striker has continued her strong form into the new NWSL season, becoming the first player to notch 50 career goals in the American top tier, and the first to net three hat tricks earlier this month.
"Some of the best athletes in the world received recognition at the ESPYS today," Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop said in a statement.
"As a football community we are exceptionally proud that an Australian footballer, Samantha Kerr, was among them."
Kerr beat out Lieke Martens (FC Barcelona/Netherlands), Pernille Harder (VfL Wolfsburg/Denmark), and Jodie Taylor (Seattle Reign/England) as the best international player, while United States international Megan Rapinoe was recognised as the Best NWSL Player.
Two other Australians joined Kerr in being nominated for ESPYs on Wednesday, with NBA star Ben Simmons missing out the Best Breakthrough Athlete award to Donovan Mitchell, and Stephanie Gilmore being pipped by Chloe Kim as the Best Female Action Sports Athlete.
