Australia's PFA files grievance with FFA over match payments

SYDNEY -- A union representing Australia's national team players says Football Federation Australia has not handed over match payments and bonuses owed to the Socceroos and has filed a grievance with a disputes arbitrator.

Professional Footballers Australia did not give the amount of the claim in its statement Thursday, but local media reported it as AU$100,000.

The Australian team is in Dubai preparing for its first qualifying match for the 2018 World Cup, against Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek next Tuesday.

"The PFA's decision to make public statements about a confidential and independent dispute resolution process days before a FIFA World Cup qualifier is inappropriate and unnecessarily disruptive," said FFA CEO David Gallop.

"The matters in question relate back to 2010, were first raised in August last year and are not material to the current qualification campaign."
