Father of Atletico youth player banned after two coaches assaulted

The father of an Atletico Madrid youth player has been fined €4,000 and banned from attending all sports events for two years.

Atletico brought action against the man after an incident following a youth league game against Leganes on April 17.

The man approached two Juvenil B coaches outside Atletico's Cerro del Espino base, threatening and then assaulting them.

Atletico referred the case to the Spanish sports ministry's anti-violence committee, which ruled that an offence took place.

"A fine of €4,000 and a ban from all sporting facilities for a period of 24 months [have been given] to the father of a home team player," a statement from the government body said.

It said the parent had "approached the head and assistant coach, insulting them and then hitting and threatening them, making it necessary that various persons intervened to stop the aggression."

Marca reported that the future of the aggressor's son at the club had yet to be resolved.
