Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone: 'We will have to battle tomorrow'

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has predicted another tight encounter in Tuesday's Champions League Group D game at home against Rostov.

Atletico top Group D after three successive 1-0 victories and another win against the Russian outsiders would send Diego Simeone's team through to the knockout stages with two group games still to play.

Los Colchoneros won 1-0 in Rostov in the reverse fixture a fortnight ago, and their coach said he expected another battle which his team would need to win.

"Our opponent is a team that never breaks apart, who always play close games, either in favour or against, and know clearly what they want," Simeone said. "They know how to get the best out of what they have. I believe it will be a similar game to in Rostov, and we will need to start the game with intensity to bring it to the place where we want it.

"Our objectives are clear. We did not have many chances in the game in Rostov which means we will have to battle tomorrow."

Simeone confirmed that Fernando Torres would start again on Tuesday, with his Champions League winning experience with Chelsea bringing something extra to the side.

"Fernando is going to play from the start," he said. "His energy and workrate are contagious, he battles continuously. The more we expect from him, the better he responds, and few players do that. He is in good form, playing well. He is one of the few in our squad who has won this competition and knows what it takes. He will need to do a similar job to what he did in Rostov."

The Argentine coach was also asked about the performances of his son Giovanni, 21, who is currently impressing in his first season in Europe with Serie A side Genoa.

"As a father I do not like to talk about him as it would not be fair," Simeone senior said. "Feelings and thoughts get mixed up. He is a fighter, he works hard, and he listens."
