Atletico Madrid in 'privileged position' - Fernando Torres

Atletico Madrid forward Fernando Torres is thrilled with his team's impressive form and hopes his side can stretch their unbeaten run this season for as long as possible.

The Rojiblancos followed their 7-1 hammering of Granada in La Liga with a 1-0 triumph at Rostov in Wednesday's Champions League to make it five wins in a row and 11 consecutive games without a loss.

Atletico have won all three of their Champions League games and are at the top of Group D, three points clear of nearest rivals, Bayern Munich.

Torres, who set up Yannick Carrasco for Atletico's only goal in Russia, told Cadena Ser: "We are in a privileged position to be first in our group. We know that Bayern are strong contenders to finish top and they will drop few points.

"We need to continue to add three points if we plan to defend top spot before we face them in Germany in our last group game."

Atletico are also at the top of La Liga, level on 18 points with Real Madrid after eight games played.

"We hope this run continues and that we can maintain this level throughout the season," Torres said.

"Besides our opening two draws in the league and the 1-1 result at Barcelona, we have won all of our games.

"Things are going well. We have good vibes and our confidence is growing.

"We are following the philosophy that has given us so much success in recent years."

La Liga winners in the 2013-14 campaign and Champions League runners-up in two of the last three campaigns, Atletico have been solid at both ends of the pitch.

They have the best defensive line in La Liga with just three goals conceded and Diego Simeone's side have found the back of the net 21 times. Moreover, no side have scored on Atletico in the Champions League.

The 32-year-old Torres believes his side still have room for improvement.

"We created many opportunities against Rostov and that is positive, although we suffered more than we should," the former Liverpool and Chelsea player said.

"But the team remain solid in defence. We know how important that is to our game but we are also attacking with more men.

"Our biggest virtue is that we don't relax."

Atletico are also benefiting from the great form of Carrasco. The Belgium international has scored four goals and set up two more in Atletico's last two games.

"Carrasco is going through a great spell and we need to make the most of the players that are in a great form," Torres said.

"We hope he continues to score goals every weekend."

Atletico resume La Liga action at Sevilla on Sunday.
