Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone: Rostov are dangerous; Torres to start

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone says he is well aware of the dangers of Wednesday's Champions League game at Rostov.

Last season's UCL runners-up travel to Russia top of Group D after 1-0 victories over PSV Eindhoven away and Bayern Munich at home -- while Rostov have just one point from their first two games after a 5-0 defeat at Bayern and 2-2 draw at home to PSV.

However, Rostov are 26 games unbeaten at home in all competitions, while their vice-president Kurban Berdyev was the coach of a Rubin Kazan team which gave Simeone's Atletico one of their few knockout eliminations in the 2012-13 Europa League round of 32.

"We have seen some of Rostov's games," Simeone told a news conference in Rostov. "They are dangerous as they know exactly what they are doing. They can close up well at the back. Rostov is different to Rubin Kazan in 2013. Although they have the same coach, they have different players."

Simeone welcomes back midfielder Saul Niguez, who has missed the last two weeks due to a foot injury, but gave just one bit of team news for the game, when he said that Fernando Torres was set to start the game up front.

"Tomorrow Fernando Torres will be in the team," he said. "If I just went on form I would have to play with 15. I have no commitment with anybody, just with the team and to take the best approach to win the game."

The Argentine coach was also asked about the development of his emerging superstars Antoine Griezmann and Yannick Carrasco, who arrived at Atletico as promising youngsters, and are now coveted by many of Europe's top clubs.

"Some players arrived here as kids, like Griezmann and Carrasco," he added. "They have grown up both on and off the pitch here and become men. The players we sign have talent. Their improvement depends on their physical progression and how they fit with the squad."
