Fernando Torres' 100th goal for Atletico Madrid a childhood dream

Fernando Torres has admitted that scoring 100 goals for Atletico Madrid is like a dream come true.

The 31-year-old helped his team come from behind to defeat Eibar 3-1 in La Liga on Saturday, finding the net from close range after a low cross by Luciano Vietto in second-half injury time.

Fans at Vicente Calderon Stadium gave the striker a standing ovation and loudly chanted his name after the final whistle after Torres bagged his first goal since September.

"Finally," Torres said. "After many games and many years, this is something that will stay with me forever. I know I'll be among the club's greatest goal-scorers.

"It's a prize for me. When I was a kid and came to the Calderon, the most that I dreamt of was to wear this jersey someday, once."

Atleti boss Diego Simeone echoed Torres' praise for the Vicente Calderon crowd, calling them the team's 12th man on the pitch.

"Without a doubt, they've always given us many things, but the fans were amazing," Simeone said after the game.

"I encourage them to always be like this. [The second half] had a different atmosphere to the first half, which wasn't good for us.

"The fans participated when the team needed them. They never left the game. We went back to playing with 12."

Atletico sit second on the Spanish league table, only behind leaders Barcelona on goal difference.
