Jackson Martinez in form for Atletico Madrid, says Diego Simeone

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone said Colombia forward Jackson Martinez is in good shape and can compete for a first team spot in Tuesday's group stage Champions League match against Galatasaray in Istanbul.

Martinez returned from international play last week with a bruised tibia and was a second-half substitute in Atletico's 2-1 loss to Barcelona on Saturday.

"The team are growing. I hope that we can have all the new players on the field as soon as posible. Jackson, [Yannick] Carrasco, Oliver [Torres] have all played since the international break," Simeone said. "I think the only one who has not is [Stefan] Savic. La Liga's season is long and we also hope that our Champions League season is long."

Atletico lost 3-2 at Olympiakos in last season's group opener but went on to top their group and reach the quarterfinals before being eliminated by rivals Real Madrid.

"It is too early to talk about favorites. We are the type of team to think about tomorrow's match. They are playing at home against 55,000 fans, they are such a tough team -- it seems risky to me for us to say that we are favorites."

Simeone said he would not reveal his starters until Tuesday nor would he elaborate on the plans for play. Filipe Luis, who picked up a knock on Saturday, will not play, Simeone confirmed.

"We are looking at the match in general and the strengths that Galatasaray have, which are from the middle of the pitch forward. The start of the match will be intense because they are an aggressive team. That is why we will reinforce in the center," Simeone said.

Atletico finished runners-up in the competition two years ago and have lost just one of their last six European group away games.

The Spanish outfit head into the midweek encounter on the back of Saturday's defeat to Barcelona. Atletico had kept a clean sheet in each of their opening two league games before the loss.

Turkish champions Galatasaray, playing in the group stages for the fourth consecutive year, are hoping to improve their home record.
