Koke staying at Atletico; Filipe Luis welcome back from Chelsea

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke says he will be staying at the La Liga club next season amid links to Chelsea, and also claimed that left-back Filipe Luis would be welcomed back if he chose to return from Stamford Bridge.

Spain international Koke, 23, is currently under contract at the Vicente Calderon until 2019, with his contract reportedly including a release clause of €60 million, a figure which a report in the Daily Telegraph suggests would not put off the Premier League champions.

Chelsea signed centre-forward Diego Costa and left-back Filipe Luis from Atletico last summer, and also took back goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who had previously spent three outstanding seasons on loan at the Calderon.

But of the three, Brazilian defender Filipe Luis has impressed the least as he has failed to secure a first-team place under Jose Mourinho, with Cesar Azpilicueta preferred.

Some reports in Spain have suggested that Atletico coach Diego Simeone is interested in taking the defender back and Koke appeared to welcome that idea.

"Filipe is more than a teammate, he is a friend," he said at a commercial event in Spain. "So he would be welcomed back if he does return."

Koke has been linked with a move to join Filipe Luis in London, but played down the speculation and insisted that he will be staying where he is.

"Yes, I will play here [at Atletico] next season," he added.

Barcelona can clinch this season's La Liga title by winning at the Calderon on Sunday and Koke bristled at questions that his team would not put up a fight as the season comes to a close.

"We hope that Barca do not become champions at our stadium," he said. "We need to finish third, so that question is not appropriate."

Sunday's game is set to go ahead after a Spanish court suspended the strike which had been planned for this weekend by the players' union [AFE]. Koke said he supported AFE's stance, but was now happy to play the match as scheduled.

"We support the players, we are with AFE, and if we are to play, then we will play," he said.
