UEFA to probe Atletico Madrid over Ronaldo pitch invader, access points

UEFA has announced that it is to carry out two investigations against Atletico Madrid after their Champions League tie at the Vicente Calderon with Real Madrid.

One will focus on a "pitch invasion" as, at the final whistle, a lone spectator ran onto the field of play and tried to embrace Cristiano Ronaldo. The fan was immediately intercepted by stadium security, but UEFA deems the incident as "serious" and plan to carry out an inquiry.

UEFA will also focus on "organisational deficiencies which caused stadium access points to be blocked."

These conflicts with article 38 in the UEFA security regulations, which state: "The home team is responsible in ensuring that all passage ways, stairways, access gates, turnstiles and emergency exits are kept clear of any obstruction that would obstruct the free movement of spectators."

UEFA says its disciplinary panel will judge those charges at a meeting on May 21.
