Atletico appoint ex-Man United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon

Atletico Madrid have appointed businessman Peter Kenyon as an adviser, with a remit to expand the club's international presence, AS.com reports.

Kenyon was head of Umbro when in 1997 he moved to Manchester United, turning the English side into one of the richest sporting entities in the world.

Roman Abramovich turned to Kenyon when he took over Chelsea in 2003 and Atleti are now hoping to take advantage of his know-how, contacts and prestige to push their brand to new heights.

Atleti are looking to build on the sporting success that Simeone has brought them with an economic expansion that will provide them with a financial base to ensure continuing success on the pitch.
