Atlanta United FC inquired about the services of PSV Eindhoven's Andres Guardado over the summer, the player told reporters on Friday.
Guardado, 30, was forced off the field with an apparent hamstring strain in the first half of Mexico's dramatic 2-1 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying win against the United States.
Following the match, Guardado said: "It's not a secret that Atlanta inquired about my situation, but any sort of formal offer, that never came. Honestly, we haven't had any concrete conversations."
However, Guardado wouldn't rule out the possibility of playing in Major League Soccer in the future, despite saying that the Dutch top flight feels like a second home to him.
The Mexico international still has a contract with PSV that runs until the end of the 2017-18 season and said no formal offer was ever made to him or his club. ESPN's John Sutcliffe reported in May that Atlanta, set to begin play in MLS in 2017, was keen to bring Guardado in as one of its marquee signings.
"I've always said, ever since the rumors started about Atlanta and all of that, that MLS is a league that's growing, that obviously I can't close the door on any particular league," he said. "Right now obviously I'm at PSV, and honestly it's like a second home to me, they've treated me so well since I arrived.
"In the life of a footballer, though, you never know what the future holds."
