Ander Herrera 'not going to United'

The agent of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera says there is no truth to the fresh speculation that his client could join Manchester United.

- Hitzfeld: I rejected Man United

Herrera, 24, was the subject of one of last summer's strangest transfer sagas. First, Athletic publicly turned down a reported 30 million-euro bid from the Red Devils. Then, lawyers claiming to act on United's behalf subsequently attempted to pay his 36 million-euro release clause. And finally, the Premier League club claimed they were not interested in the player and that the men photographed at the Liga de Futbol Profesional offices in Madrid were impostors.

Reports in the British media a year on now claim United are considering making a new effort to sign Herrera, but the playmaker's representative Arturo Canales told AS that he was unaware of any interest from the Premier League.

"There has been nothing new," Canales said. "There were rumours during the whole year, saying that United would try and sign him this summer, and even that [Jose] Mourinho wanted him for Chelsea, but we have not heard anything."

Canales said Herrera's focus was now on playing Champions League football with Athletic next season.

"The player is focused on Athletic and nothing else," he said. "Ander is on holidays and he is only thinking about the coming season with Athletic, because he is very excited about playing the Champions League with his team."

AS claims Athletic are not worried that Herrera might leave the club this summer, however the contract situation of Iker Muniain -- who has just one year left on his current deal -- has become a concern.
