Aston Villa manager Remi Garde 'sorry' after Liverpool defeat

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde felt his side lacked fight and said he felt sorry for the fans, scores of whom walked out before the final whistle, as they lost 6-0 to Liverpool.

Defeat was the first time Villa had conceded five or more at home in the Premier League and while Garde refused to comment on his future he revealed his deep disappointment.

He said: "I feel humiliation when you concede six goals at home without scoring. It's very painful. We don't have time to moan too much, we have to concentrate on the next game.

"I have a lot of feelings but I will keep some for myself. The first 15 minutes we were not too bad but we gave them the first goal. We have 12 games to go, there's still the possibility to win these games and we have to fight for it. I will find 11 or 18 players who still have the desire to win those games.''

Garde also labelled it his worst result as a manager after Villa suffered their 16th defeat of a wretched season.

"I saw that as well,'' he said when questioned about Villa's lack of fight. "In the previous weeks and games it was not the case. I always knew this was a very fragile situation.

"To keep fighting it's not easy but you can imagine I didn't ask for something different today. I haven't got much explanation in that.''

The Frenchman was quick to state that despite the heavy defeat, his side still maintain hope of staying up.

"It is only one game and then of course as I said earlier, Liverpool is a very good team with so many talented players. Hopefully we won't play such a good team every week until the end [of the season],'' he added on Sky Sports.

"But I still believe we can win games and hopefully it will be enough to be safe.''

Meanwhile, in a bizarre postmatch tweet, defender Joleon Lescott posted a picture of an expensive sports car and Villa fans did not react well on the social media network.

Lescott later apologised for both the team's performance as well as his tweet, which he called "totally accidental."

"I'm not one for tweeting after games whether it's a good, bad or indifferent result but I would like to apologise for the performance today, personally and collectively," he wrote.

"Liverpool are and were better than us today but that doesn't excuse mine and the [team's] lack of commitment for the 90 minutes. Again apologies to all the fans."
