Tim Sherwood rues Aston Villa's late lapse against Swansea

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood was left frustrated with his side's inability to hold on for a draw after their late 1-0 defeat to Swansea City.

Swans striker Bafetimbi Gomis pounced with three minutes remaining at Villa Park to inflict defeat on Sherwood's men, who now sit just three points above the relegation zone.

"That's the second time it's happened now," the Villa boss said. "Against Stoke [a 2-1 loss] in my first game it was a little later but it was disappointing to lose in that manner.

"I think we deserved a point. They were better than us in the first period and in the second we looked the most likely to score.

"There comes a time in the game where, if you're looking like not winning it, you have to make sure you don't lose it. Unfortunately we've done that twice now.

"It was a good break and they have done us with pace -- it was a race to the ball in the middle and Gomis beat us to it. It's a setback but we'll pick ourselves up, we'll be all right."

Christian Benteke was forced off with a hip injury and he will be assessed to see if he can join up with Belgium ahead of the international break.

"In the end he had to come off because it was too sore to continue. It's a concern," Sherwood said. "The concern is more in the defensive areas because we have two fit defenders in the whole club. I hope this international break gives the opportunity for the physios to work some magic on them."
