Gabriel Agbonlahor: Alan Hutton the hero as Villa edge Leicester

Aston Villa captain Gabriel Agbonlahor praised match-winner Alan Hutton after his side broke their Premier League home duck at the sixth time of asking by beating Leicester 2-1 on Sunday.

Goals from Ciaran Clark and Hutton gave the home side a much-needed at Villa Park after Leonardo Ulloa had opened the scoring for the visitors.

Agbonlahor said: "You don't want that sort of record at home. The lads did brilliantly to get the three points today, Leicester are a tough side.

"Credit to Alan, he has been our player of the season so far. And the fans were great today. That's what we need -- positivity."

Hutton, who scored his first goal for more than four years, added on Sky Sports: "I'm happy to pitch in and do my best -- it's been that long since my last goal.

"We showed character and confidence. We're five games unbeaten and 11th in the league, the boys are over the moon with it and hopefully we can build on this."

Hutton was involved in the 79th-minute incident which saw Paul Konchesky sent off.

The defender tackled Hutton and then clashed with the Villa man, who forced his head into Konchesky's before pushing him.

The Leicester player was sent off while Hutton escaped with a yellow card, and the Scot said: "It all happened that fast. Sometimes things get heated. I was a little bit surprised he was sent off -- but it's not my decision."

Paul Lambert was happy with the result, stating: "I'm delighted with the win and delighted how we did it. It's a massive three points for us and we're in a bit of form at minute.

"We're playing well and we worked on something the other day, a different way of playing, and the lads took to it well.

"We should have had more and [Kasper] Schmeichel made some unbelievable saves."

Hutton's winner was his first goal for Villa since signing in 2011 and after being previously frozen out by Lambert before this season.

"Hutton is playing as well as any right-back in country," added Lambert. "I hope it's not such long wait again [for a goal]. He never asked to go away and I always had good relationship with him.

"He was good as gold and so easy to deal with. I'm delighted for him. He's got nothing to prove and doesn't need make up for lost time."

Villa will discover the extent of Ashley Westwood's knee injury on Monday after he was carried off in the first half.
